Russian Business Turns to China’s High-Tech Healthcare Sector

China’s healthcare and pharmaceutical sector has become the most attractive area for Russian businesses. In August 2019, MedTech surpassed all other sectors in terms of investment activity and topped the list of the most heavily invested industries in China. At least 39 of the 335 deals completed in August involved MedTech companies, compared with 34 in July, according to a study by Eurasia Development Ltd.

The sectors with the highest number of venture deals included medical equipment, biotechnology, healthcare digitalization and consumer healthcare.

As part of the market study, the most attractive regions for medical technologies were identified. Most companies are concentrated in Beijing (2,454 projects), Guangdong Province (1,794 projects), Shanghai (1,472 projects), Zhejiang Province (762 projects) and Jiangsu Province (730 projects).

“China needs breakthrough solutions. Russia has many talented specialists developing high-tech projects and solutions in this field. Given the strong prospects, we believe they can enter China’s HealthCare and MedTech markets and establish a strong position in their respective niches,” Andrey Prokhorovich, CEO of Eurasia Development Ltd, told Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

The main drivers of industry growth have been venture financing, technology development and adoption, artificial intelligence and virtual reality, and Big Data.
