Representatives of Russian technology parks from the Chelyabinsk and Novosibirsk regions, as well as the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), presented innovative projects at the opening of the China-Russia Technology Park in the Yantai Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone.
Ekaterina Prokhorovich, an expert with the Quality Control and Innovative Development Department at Eurasia Development Ltd., presented a new alternative energy project — “Vertical-Axis Wind Turbines.” The product was developed at the research center of South Ural State University (National Research University).
Independence from wind direction, silent operation, absence of vibration, infrasound and ultrasound, ease of maintenance and assembly, and environmental safety make the system unique. And these are far from the only advantages of vertical-axis wind turbines.
Favorable conditions for investors and partners are created by the fact that the use of these systems does not imply competition with traditional products already available on the market, but instead makes it possible to enter unoccupied niches, including:
- installation on the roofs of residential buildings;
- emergency power supply for government, medical and military facilities both in cities and remote areas, including in low-wind and permafrost conditions;
- equipping mobile groups, expeditions and tourist groups with portable folding systems;
- wind turbines installed on ships and on oil production, fishing, research and other autonomous offshore platforms;
- power supply for any urban facilities;
- autonomous power supply for elevators, lighting systems and emergency systems in skyscrapers;
- autonomous lighting for bridges and other man-made structures;
- lighting and emergency power supply for railway facilities;
- autonomous street lighting in cities;
- sale of folding systems to private consumers.
These niches are not occupied by manufacturers of horizontal-axis wind turbines and open up new markets and significant opportunities for cooperation and business development.
The technology and products are patented in the Russian Federation, the United States and other countries.
Vertical-axis wind turbines have been installed and are undergoing testing in Akita, Japan, and in the United States on a buoy in Suisun Bay, Oakland, California.
In Russia, the systems have been deployed in Far North conditions on the Yamal Peninsula, as well as in the Arkhangelsk, Sverdlovsk, Yaroslavl and Chelyabinsk regions.
Low operating costs, the expected shortage of fuel resources and environmental friendliness make renewable energy sources highly promising.
