According to experts, China’s industrial robotics industry is still at an early stage of development. However, the temporary technological gap and, consequently, the dominance of foreign players in the local market do not prevent China from being the main driver of the industry —
138,000 robots sold and 37% of the global market in 2017.
Incidentally, the Chinese government has set an ambitious target — to reach
50% of the global market by 2020. However, the status of the “world’s factory” does not correspond to the country’s serious ambitions — China is actively working to develop innovation. According to SIPO, by the end of 2017 the country accounted for
36.5% of global applications, with more than
110,000 applications and patents registered in total. The majority of applicants were Chinese companies.
It can be assumed that in the near future China will overcome its gap with
KUKA — incidentally, Germany’s KUKA has already been acquired by Chinese home appliance manufacturer
Midea, which spent more than
USD 4 billion on purchasing its shares — and
FANUC, and will take leading positions in the industry not only as a manufacturer, but also as a supplier of unique solutions.
