Russia’s Industrial Robotics Market and Opportunities for Technology Transfer from China

Q1 2026
The global industrial robotics market continues to grow steadily, driven by corporate investment in digital automation and efficiency improvements. The expansion of the installed base of industrial robots also strengthens the service ecosystem, including maintenance, upgrades, spare parts, and engineering support. Another key feature of the industry is its high level of concentration: development trends, standards, and supply chains are largely shaped by a limited group of market leaders.

For catching-up markets, including Russia, the main barriers are therefore not limited to financing, but also include access to technologies, integration capabilities, and service infrastructure.

China has built the world’s largest installed base of industrial robots and has a significant influence on global demand. Economies of scale accelerate product development and reduce solution costs, while the country’s mature ecosystem of manufacturers and system integrators simplifies technology sourcing and equipment procurement.
Key Findings on the Russian Market
  • Installed base: more than 20,000 robots (20,800 in 2024)
  • New installations in 2024: 8,023 robots
  • Robot density: 29 robots per 10,000 employees, significantly below the levels of leading countries
  • Market size in 2024: RUB 8.2 billion
  • Growth: +62% year-on-year increase in the installed base in 2024
  • Workforce factor: shortage of approximately 60,000 specialists in the industry
Demand is therefore growing faster than supply. Market constraints include low localization levels and shortages of certain robot classes and components, which increase project lead times and dependence on external suppliers.
According to ED analysis and official Russian government plans, the national target is to enter the world’s top 25 countries by robot density by 2030.

Potential annual growth rates are estimated at 12–32%, depending on the scale of government support measures. Reaching the target indicators will require the deployment of approximately 104,000 industrial robots by 2030, assuming employment in manufacturing remains at the 2024 level.
Eurasia Development’s research confirms that the Russian market remains a catching-up market but has already entered a phase of rapid growth. At the same time, shortages persist in certain robot classes and components.

Against this backdrop, Chinese manufacturers and technology partners can help close the supply gap through their scale, broad product portfolios, and competitive solution costs.

The most in-demand market-entry model is an integrated offering: robot + system integration + training + service.

This model increases value for the customer and creates a long-term relationship through maintenance and upgrades.
