A Big New Silk Road
The Silk Road Science Park Association (SRSPA) was officially launched in the Chinese city of Yantai on July 3–6. More than 400 representatives of companies and organizations from nine countries took part in the events marking the launch, including representatives from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Lithuania.

The new partnership platform is designed to remove barriers to cooperation between countries and regions along the Silk Road, strengthen international collaboration and provide a platform for turning high-tech ideas into practical solutions.

The Association brought together around 80 Chinese organizations and more than 45 organizations from other countries, including science and technology companies, service providers and research institutions from countries and regions participating in cooperation under the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road initiatives.

SRSPA is expected to facilitate agreements in education, biotechnology and intellectual property while protecting the interests of all its members.

Zhang Renzhong, Director of the Yantai Industrialization Base for New and High Technologies, spoke enthusiastically about the event and noted that it had been held at a high level:

“We created SRSPA so that research institutions and innovative companies from participating countries could connect with each other and high-tech ideas could benefit our economies and improve people’s lives. Our Base has been operating since 1998, so Yantai has long served as a bridge between our countries. We not only support the development of foreign technologies in China, but also help Chinese companies enter international markets.”
